The design process should be enjoyable for the client, not a source of frustration. Because of my professional background, I understand the need for both creativity and practicality in the design process, as well as, a high level of customer service.
The length and complexity of the design process will depend on the scope of your project. I am available for anything from a simple two-hour consultation to an extensive remodel. I work in all different design styles, from contemporary to traditional, and often join classic design elements with contemporary pieces to create a sophisticated and individualized space.
No matter what your individual style, or how extensive your project , the design process always begins with an in depth conversation between client and designer, and will generally proceed through the following phases:
The programming phase begins with assessing your needs, desires, tastes and design challenges. An important part of this phase is determining a preliminary budget, and determining what kind of outside vendors and/or contractors we will need to realize our vision. Based on these factors, we will establish our project goals, and execute a Design Services Agreement, setting out the scope of the project and scope of my services.
This phase involves the creation and presentation of project drawings (as needed), and the presentation of color schemes, finishes, and furniture. Finishes might include paint, fabric, wall coverings, floor coverings, or window treatments. We will consult with outside vendors and/or contractors (as needed) to determine how best to achieve the project goals and set a realistic time frame for completion of the project. The final component of the planning phase is your approval of the project drawings, and approval of all items to be purchased.
Once the project drawings, finishes, and furniture are finalized, purchase orders are completed and orders are placed with vendors. I work with numerous vendors, many of which are available only to the design trade. I choose vendors based on the scope and budget of a given project.
The final phase of the project involves the realization of our project goals. Contractors, such as electricians, plumbers, painters, etc., complete their work. Furnishings and accessories are delivered, assembled, and installed in accordance with project plans. I make sure everything comes together as it should, your new space is unveiled and ready for you to enjoy.
